Biographical Information[edit]

Nick Pantos has pitched for the Greek national team.

He set his high school's records for hits and doubles. [1] Going to college, he did not play at Maryland in 2017. Transferring to junior college, he was 9-1 with a 2.96 ERA and 90 K in 67 IP, winning All-Conference. [2] He then switched schools again, this time to Old Dominion. He was 5-3 with a 4.05 ERA as a redshirt sophomore. He then got Greek citizenship, so he could play for the Greek national team; the team had relied on Americans of Greek descent throughout its existance. [3]

As a junior, he was 2-1 with a 5.12 ERA. His senior year, he improved to 4-2, 4.82 with one save. [4] He then appeared for Greece in the 2021 European Championship, getting the tough call of starting against defending Silver Medalist Italy. He walked his first batter (Noel Gonzalez) then Leo Ferrini singled. He struck out minor league veteran Dario Pizzano but Vito Friscia singled in a run. Pantos lasted three innings, allowing four hits, three walks and four runs (two earned) while striking out two; Dean Christidis followed him. He took the loss to Claudio Scotti. His other outing, he relieved Dimitri Kourtis in the 12th with a 12-6 lead over France as the Greek offense was coming off a huge inning. He held on, but it was not a breeze. Two runners began on thanks to the Schiller Rule then he walked Jacques Boucheron to load the bases. He struck out Paolo Brossier but a passed ball scored one run. Léo Jiminian grounded out then Félix Brown doubled in a pair. Pantos walked Andy Paz to bring up the potential tying run in Luis Delogu, but Nick got him to ground into a game-ending force. [5]
