Biographical Information[edit]

Dean Christidis has pitched for the Greek national team.

Christidis debuted for Greece in the 2019 B-Level European Championship, combining with Alex Gounaris on a shutout of Ireland. In nine innings in the Euros, he allowed six hits, three walks and one unearned run, fanning four. He led the event in ERA (1.38 ahead of former minor leaguer Adam Panayotovich and 2.00 ahead of former minor leaguer Andrei Lobanov at #3). He also tied Lobanov for 4th in IP and allowed the lowest average (.182, .018 ahead of Evgenii Chernozemsky). [1] In the 2021 European Championship, he made two appearances. Against Bronze Medal-bound Italy, he relieved Nick Pantos in the 4th with a 4-0 deficit. He allowed a leadoff single to Erick Epifano, retired Mattia Mercuri, walked Noel González then got Leo Ferrini on a fly. He then ran into a rough stretch by walking Dario Pizzano and Vito Friscia to force in a run, followed by a two-run single by Alberto Mineo before Ernesto Liberatore grounded out. Gounaris then took over to open the 5th. His other outing came versus Sweden. Relieving Theon Bourdaniotis in the 4th with a 6-0 deficit, he walked Joel Johnson but then got Daniel Johnson, Thomas Paulich and Niklas Melin in order; in the meantime, Joel Johnson stole second, advanced on Paulich's fly and scored on a wild pitch. Trolle Brandt singled to begin the 5th and Oskar Jerfsten bunted him over, then Markus Melendez doubled in a run. The southpaw got Per Sjörs swinging for out number two but Tommy Lindell's grounder led to a Dimitri Kourtis error to score another run. Yanni Orfanidis then relieved. [2]
