Current Division-II Conference[edit]

The East Coast Conference is the offspring of several single-sport college conferences which existed in the New York City Metropolitan Area in the 1960's, 70's and 80's. It is a direct descendant of the Big Apple Basketball Conference, which was a Men's Division II conference. In 1988, the athletic directors of C.W. Post and Queens invited the athletic directors of all Division II institutions in the New York Metropolitan Area to discuss forming one multi-sport conference. After several meetings the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference was formed. The conference changed to its current name in 2006.

Defunct Division-I Conference[edit]

There also existed a D-I Conference from the mid 70s to the early 90s called the East Coast Conference. The conference was formed as the Middle Atlantic Conference in 1958. The name was changed to ECC in 1974. The conference was eventually absorbed by the Mid-Continent Conference in 1994.
