Mountain East Conference
The Mountain East Conference began play in the 2013-2014 school year. The conference was created by the nine football-playing schools of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference leaving that conference to form a new one.
The nine schools that originally formed the new conference were University of Charleston, Concord University, Fairmont State University, Glenville State College, Seton Hill University, Shepherd University, West Liberty University, West Virginia State University and West Virginia Wesleyan College. Seton Hill eventually decided to instead join the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, along with University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, another WVIAC school.
The Mountain East eventually replaced Seton Hill with Wheeling Jesuit University (another WVIAC refugee) and Notre Dame College, Urbana University and the University of Virginia's College at Wise to bring the conference up to 12 schools.
Point Park University joins the Mountain East for the 2025 season.
