Great Midwest Athletic Conference
The Great Midwest Athletic Conference began operating in the 2012-2013 school year.
Formed in June 2011, charter members were Cedarville University, Notre Dame College, Urbana University, and Ursuline College (a women's college). Central State University, Kentucky Wesleyan College, and Trevecca Nazarene University joined in late 2011, while at the same time Notre Dame instead pursued membership in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. University of Virginia's College at Wise and Georgetown College were admitted in early 2012, but Georgetown was then denied admittance to D-II from the NAIA, and dropped its quest to move up. In late 2012 Urbana and UVa–Wise were announced as charter members of the new Mountain East Conference, slated to begin in the 2012-2013 school year. Later in 2012 Alderson-Broaddus College, Davis & Elkins College, Ohio Valley University, and Salem International University were admitted for the 2013-2014 school year.
