Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Miguel Roman played in the minor leagues and the CPBL. His Brother was minor league pitcher José Román.
Roman was signed by the Cleveland Indians in 1981, and he hit .114/.184/.114 in 17 games for the Batavia Trojans. He improved to .295/.308/.450 in Batavia in 1982, and he hit .251/.276/.396 in 1983. He also played 9 games for the Waterloo Indians in 1983, but he had a 5-for-30 record. Roman hit .254/.293/.477 for the Trojans in 1984, and his batting line was .232/.247/.366 in Waterloo. He had a .263/.301/.409 batting line with the Indians in 1985, then he was improved to AA Waterbury Indians in 1986. Roman hit in 1987 for the Williamsport Bills, and he hit with the Jackson Mets of the New York Mets system.
The Uni-President Lions signed Roman in 1990, when they were founded, and he hit .237/.271/.403 with 13 homers. On April 26, he completed the first inside-the-park home run of the CPBL against Wen-Chuan Lee. He was 3rd in RBI (9 behind Luis Iglesias) and 3rd in homers (5 behind Iglesias). Roman was also selected into the 1990 CPBL All-Star Games, and he was 1-for-11. He attended the All-Star Games in the next summer , and he crushed a homer against Wen-Cheng Lin in Game 3; he was 6-for-11 with 3 runs in 3 games. Roman ended up hitting .253/.289/.369 with 5 homers in 1991, and he recorded a .346/.357/.500 batting line in the 1991 Taiwan Series to help the Lions beat the Wei Chuan Dragons in 7 games. He slumped to .239/.274/.470 in 1992, and he left Taiwan.
Overall, Roman hit .260/.296/.404 with 681 hits and 74 homers in the minors and .243/.278/.403 with 164 hits and 25 homers in the CPBL.
