Biographical Information[edit]
Matt Beattie has pitched in the minor leagues and for the Australian national team.
Beattie pitched a shutout inning for the Melbourne Aces in 2016-2017, and he allowed 6 runs in 7 2/3 innings in 2017-2018. The Detroit Tigers then signed him (the scouts were Kevin Hooker and Glenn Williams) [1], but he missed the 2018 season due to injuries. He made his minor league debut in 2019, but his ERA was 7.80 in 10 games. After the coronavirus shut down the minor leagues in 2020, Beattie had a 10.80 ERA in 12 games in 2021 for the Lakeland Flying Tigers. The Tigers then released him on December 12.
The Melbourne native returned to Australia after leaving the Tigers chain, and he recorded a 4.82 ERA in 7 relief outings for the Aces in 2022-2023. He was in the designated pitcher pool for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, but he was not activated. Beattie had a 4.50 ERA in 2 games in 2023-24 before he went to the Canberra Cavalry, and he pitched 8 shutout innings for them.
Beattie also represented Australia in the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. He relieved Kai-Noa Wynyard in the 5th inning against Chinese Taipei, and he gave up a walk to Tien-Hsin Kuo after Shao-Hung Chiang flew out. Beattie then retired Chih-Cheng Chiu and fanned Chieh-Hsien Chen to end his work. He then replaced Brodie Cooper-Vassalakis in the 9th inning versus Japan. He walked Makoto Kadowaki and Kyota Fujiwara then struck out Kota Ishibashi to end the inning. The Australia lost to Chinese Taipei in the Bronze Medal game. [2]
