Biographical Information

Manny Esquivia pitched 8 seasons in the minor leagues, going 37-25.

Esquivia debuted in 1997 with Maracay 1, going 4-4 with a 4.27 ERA in the Venezuelan Summer League. In '98, he was 0-2 with a 5.46 ERA for Guacara 1. During 1999, the Colombian had a 5-4, 3.00 record for Ciudad Alianza in the VSL.

Manuel came stateside in 2000 and did very well with the GCL Marlins (6-2, 2.43, .209 average allowed) and the Utica Blue Sox (1-0, 2.45). He struck out 77 in 64 2/3 IP and led the Gulf Coast League in strikeouts. He placed 6th in the circuit in ERA.

In 2001, Esquivia had a 8-7, 5.13 record with a save for the Kane County Cougars. He allowed a .232 average but walked 51 in 105 1/3 IP. Manuel struggled in 2002, split between the Jupiter Hammerheads (0-2, 11.25, 12 BB in 8 IP), Kane County (2-0, 2 Sv, 2.77, .133 average) and the GCL Marlins (1-0, 1 R in 9 IP, 11 K, 3 H).

The right-hander fared well for the 2003 Greensboro Bats, going 10-5 with a 4.24 ERA to lead his club in wins. He moved to the New York Yankees chain in 2004 but bombed with the Tampa Yankees (10 R, 10 BB in 5 2/3 IP) and Battle Creek Yankees (6 R, 8 BB in 5 IP).

In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, Manuel struggled for Colombia, allowing 6 walks, 6 hits and 7 runs in 3 1/3 IP and losing a decision to Australia.

Esquivia was hired as pitching coach of the DSL Rays for 2009 and held that job in 2010 as well. As of 2012, he was the head Colombia scout for the Tampa Bay Rays. He later scouted for the Chicago Cubs, signing Erling Moreno, Carlos Ocampo, Fabián Pertuz and Jhon Romero.
