Biographical Information[edit]

Alfredo Zárraga has pitched as high as AAA and for the Venezuelan national team.

He was signed by Chicago Cubs scouts Manny Esquivia and Cirilo Cumberbatch. [1] He split the summer of 2022 between the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (1-0, 4 Sv, 2.08 in 16 G, 28 K in 17 1/3 IP) and the South Bend Cubs (0 R in 1 1/3 IP). He completed a combined no-hitter against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, following Tyler Schlaffer, Luis Angel Rodriguez, Gregori Montano and Angel Hernandez. [2] The Cubs then dealt him to the Tampa Bay Rays for Miles Mastrobuoni. [3]

Zárraga split 2023 between the Bowling Green Hot Rods (4-0, 4 Sv, 2.56 in 40 G; 79 in 63 1/3 IP), Montgomery Biscuits (0 R in 1 IP) and Durham Bulls (2 R in 2 IP). He tied Eddy Yean and Rodolfo Sanchez for 3rd in the South Atlantic League in pitching appearances and was 5th in the Rays chain. That winter, he was 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA for the Tigres de Aragua. He split 2024 between Montgomery (3-4, 8 Sv, 2.70 in 36 G) and Durham (1-1, 5.93 in 10 G), fanning 76 but walking 32 in 57 innings. Only Keyshawn Askew pitched more games by a Rays farmhand and only Austin Vernon had more saves.

In the 2024 Premier 12, he debuted against Mexico, relieving Ricardo Pinto in the 6th with a 7-0 lead. He retired Chris Carter, struck out Julian Ornelas, gave up a hit to Phillip Evans and whiffed Alonso Gaitan. Enderson Franco took over. He didn't do as well in two stints against Team USA, with five walks and two runs in 2/3 IP combined. He tied Pinto and Liván Moinelo for third in the tourney in walks. [4]
