Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Eddy Yean was signed as an international free agent by the Washington Nationals on July 2, 2017, barely a week after he had turned 16. It took him another year to make his professional debut, lining up with the DSL Nationals in 2018 and gong 1-2, 5.98 in 11 games. He moved to the United States in 2019, splitting the season between the GCL Nationals and the Auburn Doubledays of the New York-Penn League, going a combined 2-3, 3.50 in 10 starts as one of the youngest persons to play professional baseball in the U.S. that year. In 46 1/3 innings, he limited opponents to 37 hits, walked 17 and struck out 43. He then did not pitch at all in 2020 as the minor leagues were shut down by the Coronavirus pandemic.

He was considered the #6 prospect in the Nationals organization when on December 24, 2020, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates alongside another pitching prospect, albeit a more advanced one, Wil Crowe, in return for the Pirates' starting first baseman, Josh Bell.
