The DSL Nationals debuted as the Washington Nationals' Dominican Summer League affiliate in 2005, the first year for the Nationals in the USA capital.

The 2005 DSL Nationals were 37-35 to finish 4th in the Santo Domingo West division. From 2006 to 2008, they fielded the DSL Nationals 1 and DSL Nationals 2. With a unified team again in 2009, they were 29-42 with no one hitting .300.
