Biographical Information[edit]
Danis Correa has pitched in the minors and for the Colombian national team.
Correa was signed by Chicago Cubs scouts Manny Esquivia, Hector Ortega and Louie Eljaua in 2016. [1] He made his pro debut in 2017, and he was 2-3 with a 3.62 ERA for the DSL Cubs 2 his first year, also going 0-1 with a 2.16 ERA for the AZL Cubs 2. He only pitched 2 games there in 2018, and he missed the entire 2019 season due to a right back sprain. [2] After the coronavirus shut down the minor leagues in 2020, Correa had a solid 1.73 ERA for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in 2021, and he also pitched 8 games with a 2.45 ERA for the South Bend Cubs; he struck out 60 in 37 innings combined. On June 23, he completed a no-hitter for the Pelicans, following D.J. Herz, Jeremiah Estrada and Bailey Reid against the Columbia Fireflies. He then pitched 3 games for the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League, but his ERA was 10.13. Correa notched 7 saves with a 2.93 ERA in 26 games for the Tennessee Smokies in 2022, and he also reached AAA in that season. However, he struggled in higher levels, and his ERA was 5.40 in 12 relief outings for the Iowa Cubs.
The Cartagena native made it onto Colombia's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, but he didn't pitch any games. His ERA was 3.44 with 8 saves with Tennessee in 2023, but he allowed 15 runs in 9 innings for Iowa. The Cubs released him on August 25, and the Cincinnati Reds signed him. Correa struggled again with new teams, and he surrendered 6 runs in 4 2/3 innings for the Chattanooga Lookouts. He was 2-1 with a 4.26 ERA for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo in the winter, and he became a free agent. The Oakland Athletics signed him in December 2023.
