Mexico City, Distrito Federal

Mexico City is the capital of Mexico and is one of the largest cities in the world in terms of population. The city is part of the Distrito Federal (Federal District in English) and not of any of the Mexican states. In spanish, it is known as Ciudad de México or simply México.

The first regular season Major League Baseball games to be played in Mexico City were scheduled to take place on April 18 and April 19, 2020 at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú, but were wiped out by the Coronavirus pandemic. They wererescheduled for April 29-30, 2023. The lack of a first class ballpark in the capital meant that although a number of games had been played in Monterrey, Nuevo León, further north, the sport had only come to the much larger capital for exhibition games. A second series was played here on April 27-28, 2024.

Because of its humongous population and large middle class, Mexico City is seen by many as a potential site for future MLB expansion.
