Distrito Federal

Distrito Federal, often abbreviated D.F., is the Federal District of Mexico, i.e. the area comprising the capital city, Mexico City, and some surrounding areas that is not part of any of the 31 Mexican states. It is the equivalent of the District of Columbia in the United States. The term is also the former name of the Distrito Capital, the equivalent district around Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.

Other towns in the Distrito Federal include Coyoacán and Tacubaya.
