Biographical Information[edit]

John Verducci peaked at AAA.

Verducci played for Team USA in the 1983 Intercontinental Cup (winning a Silver Medal) and 1983 Pan American Games (winning a Bronze Medal). The Minnesota Twins took him with the 62nd pick of the 1984 amateur draft, a 3rd-rounder, right ahead of Tony Perezchica, but he did not sign. He was a finalist for the 1985 Golden Spikes Award in a field including Barry Larkin, Greg Swindell, B.J. Surhoff, Pete Incaviglia and winner Will Clark. The San Francisco Giants chose him in the 5th round of the 1985 amateur draft, one round before they took Jeff Brantley.

He made his pro debut that summer with the Everett Giants, hitting .237/.290/.292 and fielding .943 at short. He split 1986 between the Fresno Giants (.286/.394/.323 in 40 G), Shreveport Captains (0 for 5, 5 BB) and Phoenix Firebirds (.282/.328/.362 in 60 G), with a decent AAA performance. Though José Uribe did not hit much for the 1986 Giants, Verducci did not get a call-up. He struggled with Phoenix in 1987 (.173/.311/.187 in 30 G) to end his career.
