Biographical Information

Joe Frazier played four seasons in the majors and 14 in the minors. He managed the New York Mets two years and was a minor league manager more than a decade.

His most notable year in the majors was 1954, when he posted a batting line of .295/.388/.500 in 81 games (103 at-bats) for the St. Louis Cardinals. In the minors, his most productive year was 1953, when he hit .332 with 22 home runs for the Oklahoma City Indians and was named the Texas League MVP.

He retired as a player following the 1960 season. He scouted for the Houston Colt .45s from 1961 to 1965. He then managed in the Astros' farm system in 1965 and 1966 and was a batting instructor in 1967. He moved to the New York Mets' system and managed in the minors from 1970 to 1975, then managed the big club in 1976 and 45 games of 1977.

While in the minors, Frazier missed the 1943, 1944, and 1945 seasons due to military service during World War II.
