In 1974, the Victoria Toros began play as the New York Mets AA affiliate in the Texas League when the club relocated from Memphis, Tennessee to Victoria, Texas. The team played in Toro Stadium. The club posted the league's best record and won the Eastern Division title. Offensively, the Toros were led by first baseman Brock Pemberton, who hit .322, and outfielder Ronnie Diggle, who had a .291 average. Pitcher Jackson Todd won 11 games and pitched a no-hitter on May 14th. They went on to face the El Paso Diablos in the postseason, and the Toros swept them to win the league title. However, the team drew poorly, with attendance of only about 49,000 for the season. After just one year, the Toros moved to Mississippi and became the Jackson Mets.
