Biographical Information[edit]

Jae-young Lee played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 12 years.

Lee was drafted by the Doosan Bears in the first round of the 2002 KBO draft, and he collected 7 holds and 2 saves with a solid 2.96 ERA in 67 appearances in his first season. He notched 10 holds and 5 saves with a 3.65 ERA in 52 relief outings in 2003, and he also represented South Korea in the 2003 Baseball World Cup. He was 2-1 with a 4.35 ERA (the rest of the staff had a 1-5 record), beating Canada's Phil Devey and Italy's Sandy Patrone but losing the 7th/8th place game to Brazil's Claudio Yamada. He struck out 25 in 14 2/3 IP, one K shy of tourney leader Vicyohandri Odelín.

Lee was 9-7 with a career-high 14 holds and 3 saves in 2004, and he pitched 60 games with a 2.59 ERA. His ERA rose to 4.03 in 16 games in 2005. He lost Game 2 of the 2005 Korean Series to the Samsung Lions; his team was swept. He then missed the next two seasons due to military service. The Bears traded him with Yong-eui Kim to the LG Twins for Sung-yul Lee and Seung-hwan Choi in the middle of the 2008 season, but Lee struggled in that season as his ERA was 6.19 in 48 games. He collected 11 saves with a 5-3 record and a 4.13 ERA in 47 appearances in 2009, and the Twins traded him with Dong-soo Choi, Yong-gwan Kwon and Chi-yong Ahn to the SK Wyverns for Sun-kyu Kim, Hyeon-jun Park and Yo-seop Yoon. Lee only pitched 8 games in 2010, then he had a 2.79 ERA in 21 games in 2011. He notched 10 holds in 2012, but his ERA rose to 4.29 in 48 appearances. Lee then pitched 44 games with a 5.56 ERA in 2013, and he struggled again in 2014 as his ERA was 6.19 in 38 games. He had a 4.65 ERA in 26 games in 2015, then he announced his retirement.

Overall, Lee was 38-31 with a 4.13 ERA, collected 23 saves and 61 holds in 475 appearances, struck out 550 and pitched 682 innings in 12 seasons in the KBO.
