Biographical Information[edit]
Yong-eui Kim played in the Korea Baseball Organization and for the South Korea national baseball team.
Kim was drafted by the Doosan Bears in the 4th round of the 2008 KBO draft, and he was traded with Jae-yeong Lee to the LG Twins for Seung-hwan Choi and Seong-yeol Lee. Kim then missed the next two seasons due to military service. He hit .247/.304/.299 in 83 games in 2012, and he represented Korea in the 2012 Asian Championship. He was 0-for-3 against the Philippines, and he went 2-for-3 versus Pakistan. Kim had a 0-for-3 record against Japan, and he went 0-for-3 again in their final game against Chinese Taipei. South Korea won Bronze in the event.
The Seoul native played 109 games in 2013, and he recorded 21 steals with a .276/.346/.379 batting line. He then hit .240/.317/.290 in 2014, and his batting line was .252/.347/.292 in 2015. Kim had his career year in 2016, and his batting line improved to .318/.388/.412 with 19 steals in 105 games. However, he slumped to .268/.344/.329 in 2017, and he only hit .233/.298/.245 in 2018. Kim's batting line fell to .218/.316/.279 in 2019, and he only got 75 at-bats with a .271/.297/.357 batting line in 2020. He was mainly used as defensive replacement in 2021, and he struggled at the plate as he hit .148/.351/.222 in 41 at-bats. Kim announced his retirement after the '21 season, and he became a scout for the Twins.
Overall, Kim hit .260/.332/.325 with 463 hits in 11 seasons in the KBO.
