Biographical Information[edit]
Sun-kyu Kim pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization and for the South Korea national baseball team.
Kim was drafted by the SK Wyverns in the 4th round of the 2005 KBO draft, and he allowed 4 runs in an inning in his first season. He then missed the next three seasons due to military service, and he represented Korea in the 2006 Intercontinental Cup. He was 0-1 with a 12.86 ERA, losing to Frank Montieth and Cuba. Kim only pitched one game with the big club in 2009, and he was traded with Hyeon-jun Park and Yo-seop Yoon to the LG Twins for Jae-young Lee, Dong-soo Choi, Yong-gwan Kwon and Chi-yong Ahn.
Kim's ERA was 5.93 in 28 games in 2010, then he notched 13 holds with a 4.19 ERA in 61 relief outings in 2011. He slumped to a 5.74 ERA in 12 games in 2012, but he bounced back soon as he pitched 29 games with a 2.79 ERA in 2013. Kim struggled in 2014 as his ERA was 7.13 in 19 games, and he collected 2 holds with a 3.13 ERA in 31 games in 2015. The NC Dinos then selected him in the second draft, and Kim pitched 17 games with a 2.93 ERA in 2016. He stayed in the minors for the entire 2017 season, then he announced his retirement.
Overall, Kim was 10-6 with a 4.49 ERA and struck out 89 in 204 2/3 innings in 9 seasons in the KBO.
