In 1945 the former Milwaukee Chicks moved to Grand Rapids, MI and became the Grand Rapids Chicks. The AAGPBL team would remain there for the next decade, lasting until the league's final season. They made the playoffs every year of their existence. The team finished second in its second season at 71-41, 3 games behind the Racine Belles. After another second-place finish in 1947, the team won the post-season tournament, with Mildred Earp throwing a shutout against Racine in game seven for the clincher in a 1-0 game. The Chicks won the Eastern Division in 1948 with the league's best record of 77-48. Former ace pitcher Connie Wisniewski had moved to the field and become the top hitter but Alice Haylett (25-5, 0.77) made up for Wisniewski's absence on the mound. Grand Rapids won their second title in 1953, led by the pitching of Eleanor Moore.
