Bernhard "Benny" Meyer played four seasons in the majors. After 38 games in the 1913 National League, he jumped to the new Federal League where he was a regular in 1914-15. In 1925 while coaching he came back to the 1925 National League as a player for one at-bat and hit a double.
In the minors, he played for Newark in 1909-11. He later managed a couple times in the minors.
He managed the Grand Rapids Chicks in 1945.
Several sources say his nickname was "Earache" from his days as a coach when he would yell a lot with a piercing voice. He coached at the major league level for both the Phillies (under Art Fletcher) and the Tigers.
