Biographical Information[edit]

Gabriel Hernández was a late addition to the Colombian national team in the 2022 Bolivarian Games, replacing Ronald Ramirez, but was excellent in his two appearances. His first game, he relieved Randy Cuentas with a 8-0 lead in the 6th versus Peru. He walked Daniel Shimura but then got Rider Zevallos to hit into a force, whiffed Roberto Ayarza and got Jin Ishihara on a fly. In the 7th, he allowed a Daniel Liu single then retired Yun Contreras, Roberto Huisa and Andrés Hamamoto, the latter two by strikeout. That ended the game due to WBSC 7-inning contests. His next game was a start, also versus Peru. He went five innings and allowed four hits, a walk and no runs while fanning four to beat Marco Castellano; Luis Arrieta succeeded him on the hill. He was 7th in the Games in innings and led in ERA (Omarly Luna and Yeizer Marrugo were next, also at 0.00 but in five innings), not bad for a late addition with no minor league experience. He was not the only player by his name in the tourney as there was a Peruvian Gabriel Hernández. There was some confusion about identity apparently as they were listed with the same birthday! (They could not have been twins, having different matrilineal surnames) [1]
