Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Franklin Font was a Chicago Cubs farmhand from 1995-2000, peaking at AA. He hit .290 in his career but had little pop (3 homers).
After completing his playing career, Font remained with the Cubs organization for the next 20 years in a variety of roles. He started as a staff assistant for the Daytona Cubs in 2001. In 2002, Font was manager of the VSL Cubs. He was a coach for the AZL Cubs in 2003-2004. In 2005-2006, he was manager of the DSL Cubs. In 2007, Font was hitting coach for the Boise Hawks and he was promoted to manager of the AZL Cubs in 2008. From 2009 to 2011, Font was the Cubs' minor league infield coordinator. From June 16 to 27, 2009, he served as the interim manager of the Boise Hawks following the death of Casey Kopitzke's infant daughter. In 2012, Font moved to the big league Cubs as a staff assistant to the major league coaching staff, a role he retained through 2017. In 2018, he was named assistant bullpen coach for one year before spending 2019-2020 again as a staff assistant.
Font accepted a new challenge in 2021 when he moved to France to manage the French entry in the very short-lived European Super League of Professional Baseball, which does not appear to have gotten off the ground in any significant way.
The Oakland Athletics hired Font to manage the Stockton Ports in 2022 and he was the infield coach for the ACL Athletics in 2023-2024.
In addition to his work in France, Font also coached internationally in the Venezuelan League.
