Biographical Information

Primarily an outfielder, Frank Evans was a bit player in the Negro Leagues. A utility player who saw action at 1B, pitcher and catcher, he saw some action in the last days of the leagues, appearing for the Cleveland Buckeyes in 1949 and part of 1950. In 1951, he played for the Brandon Greys of the Mandak League. In 1954, he played for the Port Arthur Sea Hawks and Borger Gassers of the Evangeline League and West Texas-New Mexico League, respectively, hitting .313 in 19 games.

He later served as a manager and player in the dying Negro Leagues (with the Memphis Red Sox, Kansas City Monarchs, Detroit Stars, Birmingham Black Barons and Philadelphia Stars), coached for the Tulsa Oilers, Wichita Aeros, Oklahoma City 89ers, Vancouver Canadians and Louisville Redbirds and served as a major league scout for multiple teams.

His place of death has also been listed as Opelika, AL.
