Pitchers[edit]

The Monarchs' Gene Collins threw a seven-inning no-hitter on May 27 in the first game of a double-header against the Houston Eagles, winning 14-0 in San Antonio, Texas. It was a common practice for Negro League double-headers to play a nine-inning first game and a seven-inning second game, but the practice was reversed in this situation, as the first game was stopped after seven with a no-hitter intact, and the second game went the full nine innings.
