Biographical Information

Outfielder Evan Marzilli has played in the Arizona Diamondbacks minor league system since 2012 (through 2014). He twice made the College World Series All-Tournament team and helped USC to two national titles.

Marzilli hit .386 as a high school junior and was All-State. Baseball America rated him as the #2 high school player in lower New England for the 2009 amateur draft but he went undrafted due to a strong college commitment. He hit .385/.508/.571 with 30 runs as a part-timer as a college freshman. He started in the 2010 College World Series and went 10 for 27 with a .514 OBP and 7 runs. In the finals, he went 4 for 9 to beat UCLA. In the last game, with a 1-1 tie in the 11th, he bunted Scott Wingo to third to set up Whit Merrifield's winning hit off Dan Klein. He made the Series All-Tournament team, joining Jackie Bradley Jr. and Beau Amaral as the outfielders picked.

Becoming a starter his sophomore year, he batted .291/.375/.414 with 39 runs in 65 games. He was 4 for 19 with two doubles, three walks, three runs and a RBI in the 2011 College World Series as USC won again. His junior year, he hit .284/.365/.388 with 51 runs in 69 games; he was 7th in the Southeastern Conference in runs scored. In the 2012 College World Series, he hit .240/.321/.400 in 7 games. He still made the Series All-Tournament outfield again, picked alongside Rob Refsnyder and Joey Rickard.

He was taken in the 8th round of that year's draft. The scout was George Swain. With the Missoula Osprey in 2012, he hit .332/.403/.389 with 70 hits in 51 games. He was 7th in the Pioneer League in average (between Michael Snyder and Wendell Soto). Entering 2013, MLB.com named him the 17th-best prospect in the Diamondbacks system. That year, he hit .250/.342/.346 with 27 doubles, 14 stolen bases in 20 tries and 143 strikeouts in 136 games for the Visalia Rawhide. He fielded .991 in CF. He was 9th in the Arizona system in doubles. Baseball America rated him as the best defensive outfielder in the Diamondbacks chain entering 2014.

He began 2014 with Visalia.
