Team History[edit]
The Elizabethton Twins were a Minnesota Twins affiliate in the Appalachian League. They played their home games at Joe O'Brien Field in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Skipper Ray Smith played on the team in 1977, and was with the club as a coach or manager since 1987. The Twins were league champs in 2008, the sixth time Smith had led them to a title, and later added championships in 2012 and 2017, again under Smith's leadership.
In the minor league reorganization of 2021 they were transformed into a summer collegiate outfit and renamed the Elizabethton River Riders.
