Biographical Information

Eduardo de Oleo has played as high as AAA and has been on the Dominican national team.

De Oleo was originally signed by the New York Yankees. He hit .246/.335/.338 for the 2011 DSL Yankees 2 and threw out 38% of would-be base-stealers. Coming to the US the next year, he batted .191/.283/.298 for the GCL Yankees, gunning down 48% on the bases. He was the main backstop for the 2013 GCL Yankees 1, catching 42% of base-runners and showing more offense (.283/.349/.435). He led Gulf Coast League catchers with 256 putouts. He led the 2014 Charleston River Dogs with 12 homers, hitting .214/.272/.365, but only caught 23% in an off-year behind the dish. He made his Dominican Winter League debut with the Gigantes del Cibao, going 0 for 3; Carlos Paulino was the main backstop.

In 2015, he split time between Charleston (.237/.293/.316 in 11 G) and the Staten Island Yankees (.237/.284/.378) and was again neutralizing the running game (39% CS). He led the New York-Penn League in fielding at catcher, .992. The Reno Aces took him in the AAA portion of the 2015 Rule V Draft. He was 0 for 2 with a walk and two runs for the Gigantes that winter. He did not see much action in 2016, split between the AZL Diamondbacks (3 for 10, 2B, 3B), Kane County Cougars (.216/.259/.333 in 15 G) and Mobile BayBears (4 for 8, HR, 7 RBI). The Fresno Grizzlies chose him in the AAA portion of the 2016 Rule V Draft.

The San Juan native saw a bit more action in 2017 than in 2016, again bouncing between three teams - the GCL Astros (2 for 14, HR), Buies Creek Astros (.242/.304/.548 in 16 G) and Fresno (.304/.304/.391 in 6 G). He was 0 for 1 for the Gigantes in the winter. In 2018, he played for the Corpus Christi Hooks (.250/.274/.370 in 27 G) and Fresno (.267/.298/.333 in 12 G). His calling card remained his throwing arm, with 42% caught stealing. He was 3 for 7 with a homer for the Gigantes in 2018-2019; he was 5th-string behind Paulino, Webster Rivas, Taylor Gushue and Jhonatan Solano.

Like Rivas, he played for the Dominican team in 2019. Rivas was with them for the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifiers while De Oleo played in the 2019 Pan American Games. He was 1 for 7 with a walk and two runs as the backup to Audry Pérez and continued to show off his arm, catching 2 of 3 trying to steal. His hit came off Lázaro Blanco.
