Biographical Information[edit]
Dustin Houle has played as high as AAA and has been on the Canadian national team.
Houle was with the Canadian junior national team when they toured the Dominican in 2011. [1] The Milwaukee Brewers took him in the 8th round of the 2011 amateur draft, one pick before Daniel Muno. The scout was Marty Lehn. [2] He missed that summer with a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. [3]
He made his pro debut in 2012 with the AZL Brewers, hitting .206/.271/.280; he fielded .980 as their main backstop. In '13, he was with the Helena Brewers (.250/.290/.311 in 46 G) and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (.261/.370/.435 in 7 G); he threw out 39% of would-be base-stealers with Helena. He then missed 2014 with a fractured right thumb. [4]
Houle battled further injuries in 2015, split between the AZ: Brewers (.259/.394/.667 in 9 G), Helena (.385/.393/.462 in 7 G) and Brevard County Manatees (.300/.337/.375 in 25 G). He hit well enough, though, to earn a spot on Canada's roster for the 2015 Premier 12. He did not get into a game as Kellin Deglan played every inning behind the dish for Canada. [5]
In 2016, he produced at a .201/.291/.248 clip for the Brevard County Manatees (94 G) and Biloxi Shuckers (2 G). He was with Biloxi for all of 2017, hitting .225/.311/.310 as the backup to Jacob Nottingham; he fielded .995 and threw out 41% of those who tried to steal. He bounced around the Brewers chain in 2018, with stops in Biloxi (.197/.306/.230 in 24 G), Carolina (.296/.335/.370 in 17 G) and Colorado Springs (4 for 9, 2B, HR, 3 BB for a great taste of AAA).
He suited up for Canada in the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifying Tournament, splitting catching with Deglan; he did well, going 2 for 6 with a walk, double and sacrifice fly while Canada won a spot in the 2019 Pan American Games. [6] He spent 2019 in the New York Mets chain, but saw little action with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (.205/.222/.341 in 15 G) and St. Lucie Mets (0 for 3, 2 BB). He was with Canada for the 2019 Pan American Games, backing up Jordan Procyshen. He went 2 for 7 with a walk and a double for the Silver Medal winners, doubling off Miguel Martínez and singling against Freddie Cabrera. [7] His busy year with Canada continued in the 2019 Premier 12, going 0 for 3 as the backup to Deglan. [8]
