Dong-kyun Yun played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 8 years.
Yun played for the South Korean national team in the 1975 Asian Championship, 1975 Intercontinental Cup, 1976 Amateur World Series and 1977 Intercontinental Cup. When the KBO was founded in 1982, the OB Bears signed him and he recorded a .342/.428/.532 batting line with 8 homers and 5 triples in his first season. He led the league in triples, ranked 2nd in batting average (.70 behind Jinten Haku), 3rd in hits (tied with Sung-han Kim ), 3rd in doubles (between Kyeong-sik Shin and Hak-su Jeong) and 4th in walks (8 behind Jeong). The Bears won the 1982 Korean Series for the first Korean Series championship. Yun slumped to .275/.370/.419 with 10 homers in 1983, and he was 2nd in walks (5 behind Hyo-jo Jang).
The Samcheok native then crushed 10 homers with a .287/.389/.436 batting line in 1984, and he ranked 2nd in walks (2 behind Koo-seon Jeong) and 8th in hits (tied with In-sik Kim and Jang). Yun collected a career-high 6 triples with a .290/.383/.458 batting line in 1985, and he was 2nd in triples (1 behind Kyu-ok Heo). Yun played 102 games with a .267/.352/.348 batting line in 1986, then he hit .276/.350/.340 in 1987. He struggled in 1988 as his batting line fell to .205/.280/.227, and he only played 6 games with the big club before he retired in 1989. Yun later coached the Bears from 1986 to 1991, and he was named their manager after Jae-woo Lee quit in 1991. Yun was the first former KBO player to manage a KBO team, and he resigned on September 13, 1994. Yun was the bench coach of the Hanwha Eagles from 2001 to 2002.
Overall, Yun hit .285/.375/.415 with 560 hits and 38 homers in 8 seasons in the KBO.
