Biographical Information[edit]
In-sik Kim was a 6-time All-Star in the Korea Baseball Organization.
Kim played for the South Korean national team in the 1976 Amateur World Series and 1980 Amateur World Series. When the KBO was founded in 1982, the MBC Blue Dragons signed him and he recorded a .259/.334/.317 batting line with 3 homers and 35 steals in his first season. He was 3rd in steals, between Heung-woon Jo and Tae-soo Jang. On March 27, he recorded the first hit-by-pitch in KBO history against Sun-hee Lee. Kim had a .263/.307/.324 batting line in 1983, and he didn't get a strikeout in 114 consecutive at-bats. That was still the KBO record as of 2024. Kim collected 8 triples with a .258/.311/.357 batting line in 1984, leading the league in triples and ranking 8th in hits (tied with Hyo-jo Jang and Dong-kyun Yun).
The Seoul native improved to .275/.336/.324 in 1985, and he was 9th in hits (between Soon-chul Lee and Sang-hun Kim). Kim then played 108 games with a .282/.329/.350 batting line in 1986, but he slumped to .215/.241/.219 in 1987. His 606 consecutive games played record ended in 1988, and that was the KBO record until Hyeong-seok Kim broke it in 1994. It was the 6th- longest record in KBO history as of 2024. Kim struggled in 1988 as his batting line was .144/.198/.156, then he announced his retirement. He coached the Twins from 1989 to 2001, and he was the coach of Cheongwon High School from 2004 to 2005 and Chunghun High School from 2007 to 2013.
Overall, Kim hit .255/.308/.312 with 553 hits, 99 steals and 11 homers in 7 seasons in the KBO.
