Biographical Information[edit]

Kyu-ok Heo played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 11 years.

Heo was signed by the Samsung Lions when they were founded in 1982, and he hit .291/.389/.408 in 66 games in his first season. He hit .223/.250/.295 in 1983, then he had a .237/.248/.281 batting line in 1984. Heo broke out in 1985, and he had a .330/.388/.451 batting line with 26 steals. He led the league with 7 triples, ranking 4th in batting (between Sung-han Kim and Man-soo Lee) and 5th in steals (24 behind Jae-bak Kim). He then hit .293/.344/.396 with 26 swipes in 1986, and he was 4th in steals (between Jae-bak Kim and Il-kwon Kim), 9th in batting (between Jong-doo Lee and Seong-rae Kim), 5th in hits (between Sung-han Kim and Sang-hun Kim) and 3rd in triples (2 behind Sang-hun Kim).

The Daegu native stole 25 bases with a .326/.369/.451 batting line in 1987, and he was 7th in batting (between Kwang-rim Kim and Won-bu Go), 2nd in triples (2 behind Heung-sik Park) and 3rd in steals (tied with Mun-jong Hong). He had a .292/.328/.385 batting line in 1988, and he was traded with Dae-seok Oh, Jeon-yong Kwon and Si-jin Kim to the Lotte Giants for Dong-won Choi, Sung-hyun Kim and Myong-lok Oh. Heo hit .282/.352/.373 in 1989, and he was selected into the 1989 KBO All-Star Game. He crushed a game-winning, solo home run against Kye-hyun Cho in the bottom of the 7th inning, and he was named the KBO All-Star Game MVP. He slumped to .247/.331/.282 in [1990 KBO|1990]], and he was traded back to the Lions for cash. Heo's batting line was .234/.320/.316 in 1991, and he announced his retirement after hitting .213/.284/.238 in 1992. He coached Kyungil University from 2019 to 2020.

Overall, Heo hit .281/.342/.375 with 705 hits and 21 homers in 11 seasons in the KBO.
