Biographical Information[edit]

Dae-seok Oh played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 10 years.

Oh played for South Korea in the 1981 World Games and the 1981 Intercontinental Cup. The Samsung Lions signed him when the KBO was founded in 1982, and he hit .283/.374/.395 with 14 steals in his first season. On June 12, 1982, Oh hit for a cycle against the Sammi Superstars, and he was the first KBO player to do so. He also won the first KBO Gold Glove as a shortstop. He played in the first Korean Series but the Lions fell to the OB Bears. Oh slumped to .203/.266/.300 in 1983, and he bounced back in 1984 as he crushed 7 homers with a .286/.356/.437 batting line. Oh then struggled again in 1985, and his batting line fell to .200/.278/.277. He hit .256/.339/.374 in 1986, and he had a impressive .326/.378/.471 batting line in 76 games in 1987.

After hitting .258/.330/.354 in 1988, the Lions traded him with Si-jin Kim to the Lotte Giants for Hyo-jo Jang and Young-chul Kim. Oh didn't played well with the Giants in 1989 as his batting line was .194/.326/.251, and he struggled again in 1990. Oh hit .169/.289/.169 in 35 games in '90, then he played 101 games with a .234/.332/.277 batting line in 1991. He announced his retirement after the 1991 season, and he became a coach. Oh was the fielding coach for the Pacific Dolphins from 1992 to 1995, for the Hyundai Unicorns in 1996 and for the Giants from 1997 to 1998. He then coached Pohang Jecheol High School from 2000 to 2001, Daegu Sangwon High School from 2004 to 2008 and returned to Pohang in 2011. After coaching Yushin High School in 2012, Oh joined the Hanwha Eagles as their fielding coach in 2013 and their minor league coach in 2014. He later coached Gangneung Yeongdong University from 2015 to 2016.

Overall, Oh hit .250/.335/.347 with 514 hits and 36 homers in 10 seasons in the KBO.
