Division II College World Series Regionals
From 1968 to 1972 schools competed in one of four Regional Tournaments to participate in the Division II College World Series. Brackets ranged from 4 to 6 teams.
From 1973 to 1976 the field was expanded to 6 Regional Tournaments.
From 1977 to 1979 the field again expanded to 8 Regional Tournaments.
From 1980 to 1988 the field was reduced back to 6 Regional Tournaments.
Since 1989 the field has been set at 8 Regional Tournaments. In 1989 there were 8 3-team brackets, in 1998 it became 8 4-team brackets, and in 2006 it became 8 6-team brackets where it stayed through 2015. In 2016 the field was expanded to 56 teams for the first time with 6, 7, and 8-team brackets.
