Biographical Information[edit]

David Meurant is the older brother of Samuel Meurant and Anthony Meurant; like his brothers, he has played for Team France over a long period (at least 1991-2007 in David's case). His sons Mathis Meurant and Tanguy Meurant later played in France. David Meurant hit .250/.313/.286 for France in the 1991 Intercontinental Cup with 4 errors in 9 games at third base. He batted .300/.378/.475 in the 1993 European Championship, scoring 10 runs and driving in 11 in 9 games. He led the team in RBI (two ahead of Anthony Meurant) and was one run behind team leader Jamel Boutagra. He fielded .942, third-best in the tournament at SS behind Rickard Reimer and José Arza. He tied Rudi Brouwers and Jeffrey Cranston for third in the tourney in runs, tied Félix Cano and Johan Hasselström for the most RBI, tied Antonio Salazar for 6th in total bases (19) and tied for 7th in hits (12, even with Johnny Balentina, Brouwers, Jurjan Koenen and Ruggero Bagialemani). During the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, he batted .258/.343/.355 while fielding .977 at short.

In the 1994 Baseball World Cup, Meurant batted .348/.444/.435 and had the second-best OPS on the French squad, behind Arnaud Fau. He had 8 errors in 7 games at shortstop and fielded .830. He hit .464/.583/1.036 in the 1995 European Championship with 13 runs and 16 RBI in 7 games. He tied for second in the event in home runs (4, one behind Fau), tied for first in doubles (4), tied for 4th in runs, was 4th in RBI, third in total bases (29, behind Fau and Luigi Carrozza), tied for 6th in walks (8), was 8th in average, 7th in OBP and 3rd in slugging (behind teammates Sylvain Hervieux and Fau).

Meurant was only 1 for 25 with a walk and 7 strikeouts in the 1997 Intercontinental Cup with two errors at third base. He went 3 for 15 with 3 walks in the 1999 European Championship. He was France's star hitter in the 2001 European Championship, when they won their first Medal ever in a European Championship (Bronze). He hit .357/.500/.536 with 8 walks, 5 runs and 5 RBI in 8 games. He tied Pavel Budsky for second in doubles (5).

He struggled as France's DH in the 2003 European Championship, going 3 for 24 with a double, a walk and four RBI. He did lead the team in RBI but only Boris Marche and Jean-Baptiste Meunier had lower averages for France's regulars. During the 2007 European Championship, David went 2 for 22 with 4 walks, 2 runs, 2 RBI and a homer, posting the lowest average among the starting position players for France. He hit .347/.455/.455 for the Templiers de Sénart in the 2007 Division Elite season.

David was 4 for 17 with a homer and 5 RBI in five games for the Templiers in the 2008 European Cup in Regensburg. In the 2008 Division Elite, he batted .326/.401/.406 with 31 runs and 31 RBI in 42 games.
