Biographical Information[edit]
Dave Garcia played in the minors from 1939 to 1957, missing the seasons from 1943 to 1945 serving in the Air Force during World War II. He was a minor league manager from 1948 to 1957, spending 1956 as a coach for the Minneapolis Millers. He was a scout for the San Francisco Giants from 1957 to 1963 and in 1965 and 1966, managing the El Paso Sun Kings in 1964. He returned to managing from 1967 to 1969, before heading mainly to the major leagues.
Garcia was on the San Diego Padres coaching staff from 1970 to 1973. He returned to managing El Paso in the Texas League in 1974 and was a Cleveland Indians coach in 1975 and 1976. In 1977, he became a California Angels coach before being promoted in midseason to skipper, replacing Norm Sherry, a job he held until 1978. He was an Indians coach again in 1979 and managed the club after replacing Jeff Torborg that year, staying until 1982. He was a Milwaukee Brewers coach in 1983 and 1984 and ended his career as a member of the Colorado Rockies staff from 2000 to 2002.
He is the father of David Garcia and grandfather of Andrew Garcia and Greg Garcia.
