Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Connor Joe made his major league debut in 2019.

He was the 39th overall pick in the 2014 amateur draft, taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the competitive balance round. The scout was Brian Tracy He was drafted after slashing .367/.462/.606 with 9 home runs and 51 RBI at the University of San Diego, winning West Coast Conference Player of the Year. He began his professional career the next season.

He played for the West Virginia Power in 2015, hitting .245/.366/.303 with one home run, 20 RBI, 50 walks and just 34 strikeouts in 80 games. He began 2016 with the Bradenton Marauders.

On August 5, 2017, he was traded to the Atlanta Braves as the Pirates repatriated utility player Sean Rodriguez. However, his stay in the Braves' system was brief, as he was sent to the Los Angeles Dodgers for future considerations on September 24th.

He split the 2018 season between the AA Tulsa Drillers and AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers, hitting a solid .299/.408/.527 in 106 games. He slugged 26 doubles and 17 homers. However, there was no room for him on the Dodgers' 40-man roster and on December 13th he was taken in the 2018 Rule V Draft by the Cincinnati Reds.

In spring training in 2019, new manager David Bell had him play catcher, a position he hadn't tried since college, in order to increase his value to the team. However, the Reds were unable to find him a roster spot, but instead of returning him to the Dodgers, on March 21st he was traded to the San Francisco Giants for P Jordan Johnson. He made his big league debut on Opening Day, March 28th. On April 13th, he was returned by the Giants to the Dodgers; he had gone 1 for 15 in 8 games. During the rest of 2019, he had a decent year with the Dodgers' affiliate in AAA, the Oklahoma City Dodgers, hitting .300 and slugging .503.

Joe hoped to make the major league team in 2020, but cancer was discovered during a physical and he underwent surgery. By August he thought he was ready to play but the Dodgers didn't want to risk his recovery so quickly. [1] In 2021, he signed as a free agent with the Colorado Rockies and played with them as a utility player that year and in 2022. He hit .285 in 63 games with 8 homers and 35 RBIs the first year, for an OPS+ of 116, but slumped to .238 with 7 homers and 28 RBs in 111 games the second, with his OPS+ at 88. On December 18, 2022, he was traded back to his original organization, the Pirates, in return for minor leaguer Nick Garcia.

He is not to be confused with Joe Connor, who was Roger Connor's brother.
