Biographical Information[edit]

Christian Torres has pitched in the minors and for the Puerto Rican national team.

He was 11-2 with a 3.92 ERA as a college senior. [1] The Texas Rangers took him in the 30th round of the 2016 amateur draft; the scout was Rick Schroeder. [2] He was 2-3 with a 1.47 ERA that summer for the Hickory Crawdads but allowed 9 runs (7 earned) in 7 innings for the Spokane Indians. In the winter, he was 1-1 with two saves and a 6.75 ERA as a LOOGY for the Gigantes de Carolina; he totaled 8 innings in 16 games.

Torres split 2017 between Hickory (4-2, 5 Sv, 2.50 in 31 G) and the Round Rock Express (1-1, 4.76 in 5 G), reaching AAA at age 23. He allowed one unearned run in seven innings for the 2017-2018 Indios de Mayagüez. In '18, he was 5-6 with a 3.36 ERA for the Down East Wood Ducks to end his time in the Rangers chain. He was 1-0 with a 1.15 ERA for the Indios that winter. In the 2019 Caribbean Series, he reinforced the Cangrejeros de Santurce and retired the only batter he faced. In the summer, he was 1-1 with a save and a 4.33 ERA in 35 games for the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The following winter, he was with the Criollos de Caguas, posting a 1-0, 1.98 record.

Christian was on the announced roster for the Puerto Rican squad for the 2020 Americas Olympic Qualifier. [3] That was one of the first baseball events canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was back in action that winter, allowing two runs in 2 1/3 IP for Caguas. In the 2021 Caribbean Series, though, he threw two shutout frames for them. He was 3-0 with a 2.38 ERA in 21 games for the '22 Criollos. Only Max Morales had more wins in the Puerto Rican League while Torres led in appearances, two ahead of Ricardo Gómez. In the 2022 Caribbean Series, he pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings.

The lefty was 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in 25 games for the 2022-2023 Criollos, walking only four in 26 innings. He tied Matt Hardy and Ryan Munoz for the most games pitched. He had a 5.25 ERA in three outings for Puerto Rico in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games; only Freddie Cabrera pitched more times for the team. [4] In the 2023 Caribbean Baseball Cup, he allowed two runs (one earned) in 1/3 IP. [5]

That winter, he was 3-1 with a 1.99 ERA for Caguas. He tied for 6th in wins and missed the top-ten in games pitched by one. He allowed two runs in four innings in the 2024 Caribbean Series, hi first Caribbean Series runs allowed. He went to pitch in the Mexican League in 2024, his first summer ball action in five years.
