Biographical Information

Pitcher Chris Nabholz won 37 games over 6 seasons in the majors.

Originally selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 30th round of the 1985 amateur draft, Nabholz did not sign and opted to attend Towson State University instead. He was then taken by the Montreal Expos in the third round of the 1988 amateur draft and signed by scout Kelvin Bowles. He made his pro debut the following summer with the Rockford Expos, for whom he posted a 13-5 record and a 2.18 ERA. He reached the major leagues in June of the following year and went 6-2 with a 2.83 ERA in 11 starts for the Expos. He made Montreal's Opening Day roster in 1991 and went 8-7 with a 3.63 ERA in 24 starts. He won all 6 of his September starts that year and was named National League Pitcher of the Month for that month.

Nabholz put together another solid season for Montreal in 1992, recording a career-high 11 wins to go along with a 3.32 ERA. He won 9 games the next summer, and during a brief stint in the minors with the Ottawa Lynx, combined with Bruce Walton to throw a no-hitter on May 24th. Prior to the 1994 season, he was dealt to Cleveland in return for Dave Duplessis and J.J. Thobe. He struggled for his new team, giving up 14 earned runs in 11 innings of work. In July, he was traded again, this time to the Boston Red Sox with Steve Farr for Jeff Russell, and went 3-4 with a 6.64 ERA in 8 starts. He signed with the Chicago Cubs for the 1995 season, and split the summer between the majors and the AAA Iowa Cubs. For Chicago, he was 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 34 relief outings, while he was 0-2 with a 6.41 appearances for Iowa.
