Biographical Information

Outfielder Brian Fletcher has played in the Kansas City Royals minor league system since 2010 (through 2014).

He was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the 39th round of the 2007 amateur draft, one round after Robbie Weinhardt, but did not sign. He hit .324/.408/.611 with 42 runs and 42 RBI in 54 games as a college freshman. His sophomore year, he continued to hit hard (.301/.420/.628, 17 HR, 54 RBI in 56 G). He led the Southeastern Conference with 76 strikeouts and did not crack the top 10 in homers. His junior year, he produced at a .357/.430/.694 rate with 22 dingers, 62 runs and 75 RBI in 61 contests. He would have tied Todd Faulkner's school record for homers in a year but Hunter Morris had more in 2010 to beat him to a new record. Fletcher did tie Brett Eibner for second in the SEC in homers (behind Morris), was second in RBI (one behind Morris) and second to Morris in total bases. He made All-Conference in the outfield alongside Trent Mummey and Taylor Dugas. He tied Frank Thomas for third in school history in career home runs. He was 66th in NCAA Division I in slugging, tied for 12th in homers, tied for 28th in RBI and tied for 20th in total bases. He was then taken by the Kansas City Royals in the 18th round of the 2010 amateur draft, one pick before Chase Burnette, and inked a contract. Sean Gibbs was the scout.

With the Burlington Royals in 2010, he hit .313/.353/.688 with 2 home runs in 4 games. The next year, he hit .328/.386/.560 with 14 home runs, 60 RBI and 31 doubles in 91 games for the Kane County Cougars and was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star following the season. Despite his limited action, he tied for 10th in the Midwest League in doubles. Had he qualified, he would have been second in average to Oscar Taveras and would have beaten Josh Whitaker for the slugging title.

In 2012, he hit .272/.335/.422 with 15 home runs, 59 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 16 tries in 132 games split between the Wilmington Blue Rocks (.289/.353/.411 in 67 G) and Northwest Arkansas Naturals (.256/.318/.433 in 65 G) and was second in the Royals chain with 147 whiffs, behind only fellow former SEC slugger Eibner. He hit only .203/.364/.333 for the Surprise Saguaros yet was named an Arizona Fall League Rising Star after the campaign. He did tie Trayce Thompson and Jon Singleton for the AFL lead with 17 walks. In 2013, he hit .292/.330/.505 with 17 home runs and 54 RBI in 78 games between Northwest Arkansas (.314/.353/.541 in 52 G) and the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers. In his first taste of Triple-A ball, he hit .250/.287/.435 in 26 games. Once again, he was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star after the season. He tied Brett Hayes for third in the Royals chain in home runs, behind only Matt Fields and Eibner.

He began 2014 with Omaha.

He is the son of former major leaguer Scott Fletcher, grandson of minor leaguer Richard Fletcher and brother-in-law of Gordon Beckham.
