Biographical Information

First baseman Matt Fields has played in the minor leagues since 2005.

He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 44th round of the 2004 amateur draft out of high school. He was signed by scout Paul Kirsch and began his professional career the next year.

The slugger played in the Devil Rays/Rays system through 2010 and hit 15 or more home runs a year from 2007 to 2010. In 2011, he played for the independent Southern Illinois Miners, where he hit 17 dingers, and in 2012, he hit 26 home runs split between the Miners and the Wilmington Blue Rocks in the Kansas City Royals system. In 2013, he slugged 31 home runs and had 87 RBI in 131 games for the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals, despite batting only .222 with 181 strikeouts. He won the MILB Joe Bauman Home Run Award for Double-A and was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star. He began 2014 with the Triple-A Omaha Royals, his first taste of that level in his 10th year as a pro.

He is the brother of Roemon Fields.
