Biographical Information[edit]

Brandy Vann pitched in the minor leagues, TML and the CPBL.

Vann was drafted by the California Angels in the 1st round of the 1986 January amateur draft, and he was 3-0 with a 7.06 ERA for the Salem Angels. He improved to 7-15 with a 3.98 ERA with the Quad Cities Angels in 1987, and he ranked 2nd in losses in the Midwest League (tied with Jody Ryan). Vann had a 10-11 record with a 3.78 ERA in 1988, and he was 7th in strikeouts (26 behind Tom Gordon). He was 11-14 with a 4.21 ERA in 1989 for the Palm Springs Angels, and he was 2nd in losses in the California League (2 behind Dave Neal). Vann had a solid 2.05 ERA in 28 appearances for the Angels in 1990, but his ERA rose to 4.13 in 32 appearances after he was promoted to the AA Midland Angels.

The Milwaukee Brewers then selected him in the 1990 Rule V Draft, and he was 6-2 with a 2.25 ERA for the Stockton Ports. He also pitched 19 games with the AA El Paso Diablos, but his ERA was terrible 9.85. Vann then went 1-8 with a 5.14 ERA for the Diablos in 1992, and he was 4-4 with a 3.22 ERA with AAA Norfolk Tides. Vann went to the [[Brainerd Bears] in 1994, and he had a 3.12 ERA in 18 games there. The Uni-President Lions of the CPBL then signed him, and he had a 2.30 ERA in 10 appearances in 1994.

Vann was named the closer of the Lions in 1995, and he notched 14 saves with a 2.79 ERA in 41 appearances. He ranked 3rd in appearances (between Yi-Chuan Liu and Don August) and 2nd in saves (3 behind Chien-Cheng Kuo). Vann then recorded a solid 2.13 ERA in 55 games in 1996, and he collected 24 holds. He was 3rd in games pitched (between Rob Wishnevski and Liu) and 3rd in saves (between Wishnevski and Kuo). In the 1996 Taiwan Series, Vann pitched 3 innings with a run allowed to get a save in Game 1, then he allowed 3 runs in 2 1/3 innings in Game 5. The Lions beat the Wei Chuan Dragons in 6 games. The Taipei Gida of the TML then signed Vann, and he had a 4.31 ERA in 20 games in 1997. Vann had 16 saves with a 2.92 ERA for the Gida in 1998 before he was sent to the Kaoping Fala, and he notched 4 saves with a 2.16 ERA in 14 games for them. He was the saves leader in the league, but he left Taiwan after the 1998 season.

Overall, Vann was 47-62 with a 4.06 ERA in 8 seasons in the minor leagues. He had a 12-14 record with a 2.64 ERA, collected 59 saves in 180 appearances, struck out 348 in 351 2/3 innings in 5 seasons in the CPBL and TML.
