Blessed with good speed - he had 21 steals in 47 games for the Adelaide Bite of the Australian Baseball League in 2014 - he added power to his repertoire in 2015 by hitting 19 home runs (with 26 steals) between two clubs. After the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League. On December 16, 2015, he was part of a three-team trade that sent infielder Jose Peraza and outfielder Scott Schebler and himself to the Cincinnati Reds, infielder Micah Johnson, outfielder Trayce Thompson and pitcher Frankie Montas from the Chicago White Sox to the Dodgers and infielder Todd Frazier to the White Sox.
He was a MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2015 and a Mid-Season All-Star in 2016. He reached Triple A for the first time in 2017. In 124 games for the Louisville Redbirds, he hit .264/.327/.457, with 31 doubles, 16 homers, with 64 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. Back with Louisville at the start of the 2018 season, he was hitting .326 after 37 games when he got the call to the Show, replacing Rosell Herrera on the roster.
He made his major league debut with the Reds on May 22, 2018. He pinch-hit for starting pitcher Matt Harvey in the bottom of the 6th and flied out against Jameson Taillon of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
