Biographical Information[edit]

Shortstop Rosell Herrera began his professional career in 2010 and reached the majors in 2018.

The Colorado Rockies signed him as a 16-year-old on July 2, 2009. In his first pro year, he stole 17 bases for the DSL Rockies and in 2011, he hit .284/.361/.449 in 63 games for the Casper Ghosts. In 2012, he had 13 steals for the Tri-City Dust Devils and Asheville Tourists. Entering 2013, MLB.com named him the 12th-best prospect in the Rockies system -- and he didn't disappoint. In 126 games for the Tourists, he hit .343/.419/.515 with 16 home runs, 76 RBI, 21 stolen bases, 33 doubles and 83 runs scored to earn Topps Class-A All-Star, MiLB.com Organization All-Star, Most Outstanding Major League Prospect, South Atlantic League Most Valuable Player and Mid- and Post-Season All-Star honors. Entering 2014, he was ranked the 86th-best prospect by Baseball America, #99 by MLB.com and the 3rd-best prospect in the Rockies system. He struggled that year, hitting .244/.302/.335 in 72 games for the Modesto Nuts. Entering 2015, he was ranked the 9th-best prospect in the Rockies system, by BA.

He was also a Mid-Season All-Star in 2010 and a Futures Game selection in 2014 when he was the South Atlantic League Player of the Year while playing for the Asheville Tourists. However, he never made it past AAA in the Rockies' organization, peaking with the Albuquerque Isotopes in 2017. He became a free agent after that season and signed with the Cincinnati Reds. After starting the 2018 season back in AAA with the Louisville Bats. He was called up to Cincinnati on April 26th and made his major league debut that day, going 0 for 1 as a pinch-hitter against the Atlanta Braves.
