Biographical Information[edit]

After his retirement from baseball, infielder Micah Johnson became an artist, producing paintings expressing his feelings about being an African-American, focusing on the Black Lives Matters movement. His first work was a portrait of former player Maury Wills created at the urging of his manager, Dave Roberts, which turned out much better than he could ever have anticipated. It prompted him to take his pastime to the next level and he became quite successful. He had his first solo exhibit in Atlanta, GA at the Woodruff Arts Center in 2017, while still active as a player. His first works were derivative, but he soon developed his own style. His painting of Jackie Robinson is on display at the Negro Leagues Museum in Kansas City, MO.
