Atlanta Braves all-time roster
This is the Atlanta Braves all-time roster from 1866, when the team began its life as the Cincinnati Red Stockings, to the present. The franchise has moved from Cincinnati to Boston, then on to Milwaukee and their current home in Atlanta in 1966, but has maintained continuity throughout this period.
Cincinnati Red Stockings[edit]
This is a roster of the ball players who played for the Red Stockings from 1866 to 1870, when they were baseball's first professional team but before the major leagues had been invented.
Included in the roster are front office personnel, like Aaron Champion, and J. William Johnson. After the team's dissolution in 1870, manager Harry Wright took his brother, George Wright, Charlie Gould and Cal McVey as well as the team nickname to the East Coast and formed the Boston Red Stockings, who joined the new National Association. The remaining players went elsewhere. However some like Andy Leonard and Charlie Sweasy would eventually wind up playing with their former teammates in Boston.

Atlanta Braves Roster[edit]
The Boston National Association Baseball Club, also known as the Boston Red Stocking was organized on January 20, 1871. The core four players came from the Cincinnati Red Stockings. The rest came from the Rockford Forest Citys, Philadelphia Athletics, and the Morrisana Unions. Outfielder Frank Barrows was a member of the Boston Tri-Mountains (1867-1870), while Second Baseman n was making his baseball debut. These 11 men were the first in a long list of ballplayers to play for the team during its years in Boston, Milwaukee, and Atlanta. Among those to have played for the team were: Tommy Bond, King Kelly, Jimmy Collins, Fred Tenney, Cy Young, Johnny Evers, Babe Ruth, Warren Spahn, Eddie Mathews, Hank Aaron, Bob Uecker, Joe Torre, Phil Niekro, John Smoltz, Chipper Jones and the Upton Brothers: (B.J. Upton and Justin Upton).
Fun Facts:
- Braves' 3rd baseman Eddie Mathews is the only player to play in all three major league sites the Braves played ball in.
- Hall of Famer Robin Roberts is the only pitcher to beat the Braves in all 3 locations. He defeated the Boston Braves on Jul. 4, 1948 in his rookie season with the Phillies. His win against the Milwaukee Braves came on June 6, 1953. His win against the Atlanta Braves took place on August 29, 1966 as member of the Chicago Cubs and in his last year.
