Biographical Information[edit]

Atif Ahmad pitched for the Pakistani national team in the 2019 Asian Championship. He was Pakistan's youngest player, 3 years younger than the next-youngest, Muhammad Afzaal. He was not the event's youngest player as Taiwan's Po-Yu Chen was six months younger. He pitched three games for Pakistan. He started and went 5 innings against South Korea (5 IP, 10 H, 12 R, 9 ER, 6 BB, 1 K, 3 HB, 2 BK) before Muhammad Ehsan relieved. Against Sri Lanka, he again started ans lost, lasting only 1/3 of an inning this time, giving up four hits and three runs before Muhammad Taimoor Javed relieved. Finally, he relieved Javed and closed out a loss to Hong Kong, working the final 2 2/3 (8 H, 8 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, WP). His 14.09 ERA was the highest among qualifiers in the event, a bit ahead of Song Ran, but was in the middle of the 5-man Pakistani staff, behind Ehsan and Abubakar Virk and ahead of Rizwan Ali and Javed. He also was among the event leaders in innings (8th), balks (tied for 1st with Virk), hit batsmen (1st), walks (8, 1st, one ahead of Ran), hits allowed (tied for 1st with Virk), runs allowed (1st, 4 ahead of Virk), earned runs allowed (tied for 1st with Sasika Jayasinghe Archichige Don). In the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he made one appearance, relieving Amaan Khan with one on, no out and a 10-0 deficit in the 6th against Nicaragua. He plunked Benjamín Alegría, allowed a single to Norlando Valle to score the inherited run, then Milkar Pérez hit a sacrifice fly to make it 12-0. Dwight Britton singled but Ahmad got Rodolfo Bone to pop up. Syed Ali Shah then relieved and ended the inning. He was one of Pakistan's more effective hurlers on the day; only Muhammad Aslam and Shah fared better among their six pitchers. [2]
