Biographical Information[edit]

Syed Ali Shah has been on the Pakistani national team as has his twin brother Syed Muhammad Shah and his father Syed Fakhar Ali Shah. His grandfather Syed Khawar Shah ran the Pakistan Federation Baseball & Softball. [1]

At age 11, he was a first baseman and pitcher for Pakistan in the 2015 U15 Asian Championship, hitting in the heart of the order. [2] In the 2016 U12 Asian Championship, he was Pakistan's starting first baseman and also pitched. [3] He hit .333/.375/.333 in the 2017 U15 Asian Championship, finishing second on Pakistan in hits, and had a 9.55 ERA, second on the team in innings. [4] He was one of several Pakistani players to be listed on the team's roster for the 2018 Asian Games only to vanish from the rosters listed in the Final Report without appearing in a game. [5]

Shah was the starting first baseman for Pakistan in the 2019 U15 Asian Championship and also pitched, taking the loss in a near-upset 2-1 loss to South Korea. [6] He was on Pakistan's announced roster for the 2020 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers at age 15, but that was one of the first baseball events canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [7] He was the only pitcher to appear for Pakistan in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers and not allow a run, but it was in a limited sample: closing out a 12-0 loss to Nicaragua, he relieved Atif Ahmad with two outs and two on and got Sandy Bermudez to fly out. [8]

He then became the first Pakistan-raised player to get a US college baseball scholarship. [9]
