Biographical Information[edit]

Andrés Sotillet reached AA in 2019 and has played for the Venezuelan national team.

Sotillet was by Kansas City Royals scouts Rafael Vasquez and Fabio Herrera in 2015. [1] He was 7-2 with a 1.52 ERA for the '16 DSL Royals. He tied for 8th in the Dominican Summer League in wins and was 10th in ERA. [2] He was named the DSL Royals Pitcher of the Year. [3]

He struggled in 2017, doing well with the AZL Royals (3-0, 2.28 in 5 G) but not the Idaho Falls Chukars (0-2, 10.57 in 4 G) and Burlington Royals (0-2, 11.20 in 4 G). Opponents hit .333/.371/.535 off him. His 2018 season was not nearly as bad as 2018 or as dominant as 2017 - he was 2-6 with a 5.57 ERA for the Wilmington Blue Rocks and 6-5, 3.93 for the Lexington Legends. He allowed a .311 average but walked only 34 in 141 innings. He tied Jace Vines for 2nd in the Royals chain in losses but was also 4th in K (109, between Gerson Garabito and Arnaldo Hernandez).

Moving to the bullpen primarily with the 2019 Northwest Arkansas Naturals, he went 6-1 with a save and a 3.35 ERA. He pitched twice for Venezuela in the 2019 Premier 12. Against eventual champion Japan, he relieved MLB vet Felix Doubront in the 5th with a 1-0 lead. He retired Nobuhiro Matsuda but walked Seiji Kobayashi. Hayato Sakamoto hit into an error by Dixon Machado and Ryosuke Kikuchi doubled in the tying run. Sotillet intentionally walked Kensuke Kondo then Seiya Suzuki singled in Sakamoto, Kikuchi thrown out at home on the play. Liarvis Breto relieved. Sotillet did not take the loss as Venezuela retook the lead before blowing it again. His other outing came against Puerto Rico and went smoother. Relieving Dedgar Jimenez with two outs in the 7th, two on and a 7-1 lead, he hit Luis Mateo but got Ozzie Martínez on a grounder to escape the jam. In the 8th, he plunked Iván de Jesús Jr. then Jeffrey Domínguez hit into a double play and Yariel González flew out. Jhonleider Salinas came on in the 9th. Sotillet finished the event with a 4.50 ERA. [4]
